High A? Can you do a B flat? Cause I've done the High B!!!!!

I was having a sing in the van one day last Sunday, and I was messing around croaking out the high notes on certain Queen songs. At one point, I went to croak out a high B, the note I've been aspiring to reach. And inadvertantly got it.

I discovered something called mixed voice, which allows you to combine elements of your falsetto (Squeaky voice) with elements of your chest voice (natural deep speaking voice).

I then proceeded to have go after go, until I managed to figure out how to do it again.

So I recorded my favourite ever Queen Song, Hammer to fall. I've played all the instruments one by one, and done all the vocals. I know some of the backing is a bit dogdy in the centre - but I was recording the whole thing from memory as I can't find the music!

Anyway, here it is...

      I wouldn't go that far - and there's a lot of work to do to stabilise it at the upper reaches - but I'm getting there! But thankyou for the compliment!

Have you updated your iPhone yet? You might want to hold off for a bit if not - 40 million users downloading the same files all at once have causes some problems, apparently! Landers managed to get his sorted easily enough, but lots of people (particularly Windows users) are reporting errors.

  Not yet, I kinda figured that it'd be difficult, I can hold off for a coupla days or so till apple gets it's wits back!
  
  I did check the specs on the new Iphone, and what little I understood didn't seem to really bother that I didn't have it... of course it was probably the stuff I didn't understand that made it worthwhile, but I'm happy!

    The new 3.0 software is well worth the download, it includes features that SHOULD have been there all along, such as copy and paste, forwarding text messages, MMS, and phone-wide search.
    
    It's available for the Touch too, but you have to pay for it, and I'm not sure it's worth it to be honest. Many of the new features are more geared to the phone side of things.
    
    The update itself should be a simple process - plug your phone in, and iTunes should detect that an update is available. Click OK a couple of times, and you're good to go. It'll download the update (around 200M, and then install it. It might take a while to reboot, but then that's it! Backups and restores can add to the time it takes, depending on how much crap you have on the phone.
    
    This site has a rundown of many of the new features, take a look!
    
    If you do update and have trouble, apparently just keep trying and you'll be fine. Just might take a few goes, Apple's servers are taking a hammering!

        The Gmail thing I was on about yesterday is DEFINITELY worth considering. Imagine losing/breaking your phone. You get a new one, put your details in, and your contacts are back exactly as they were!
        
        It takes a bit of setting up initally (making sure all your contacts are in Gmail properly, First Name, Last Name, etc) but it's worth it in the long run!
        
        (All this info, and I don't actually own an iPhone... YET!)

Ok, I've had a listen now. Sounds pretty good, but I agree you still have a bit of work to do.

Much better than I could do, though! Can't wait to hear how you develop over the next few months.

Bearcub my friend, can I be honest, bugger it I am anyway. The vocal needs a lot of work. You are straining and it sounds strained. Try doing the vocal lines in small sections, it'll help. Don't get me wrong its a far better effort than I could ever do and the musicianship is first rate.
I have a chum in London, Dzal, who deps Brian Mays guitar at the Dominion Theatre show. If you want I will send you his web site details. He maybe able to give you a few tips on the playing techniques of the great man himself which apparently are a bit odd.

  Thanks for the honesty, I do realise that the vocals need work, it's the first time I have ever reached that high... I've got months of work ahead of me. And really I think I'd only use that high as backing vocals really.

  Quick update, I was messing around on my way home singing to highway to hell by acdc and thought "hmmm... I wonder..."
  I'm sure you guess the rest, change the key up even higher, and scream it out with a gravelly sound! I'm not ready to release it yet, as am not convinced I don't sound silly yet, but I'll keep you posted!

Hiya hun - I was well impressed with the playing....sounded pretty good to me. Think you need a bit more practise with the vocals, but I'm confident you'll get there

  Thanks hon, I was pissing about tonight mimicking ac/dc and discovered that a passable impression could done seriously. So I changed the key up even higher (!) and screamed it out. Am not 100% yet but it was a lot more powerful... Maybe time to rethink my singing style...
