  • Occasionally, some good news appears...

Recently I was growling about getting caught for speeding. Not because I got caught, but because it stopped me being able to pass my bike test. See here for link.

I got curious, as the law was a bit vague on this. I phoned the DVLA today, and a lovely chap explained that the 6 point rule applied to new licenses not new categories.

Which means I can start saving now for my Bike Lessons, CBT, and motorbike...

So I'm in a downright fuckin cheerful mood as a result!

I am now going to be saving for my CBT (£600), Motorbike (£1000+), Direct access course (£TBA), New leather pants and Jacket (£TBA)

Total: I need a payrise... which I'm also sorting out next week.

  • The Unknown... a short story

They assessed the situation. Patches of the truth showed through the badly covered exterior surfacing. However, the object stubbornly resisted any attempt to uncover it completely. Standing about chest height, and shaped like a mini stonehendge, the surface was covered in strange finishes, each of which showed a different age. It was impossible to date the object with any accuracy. It's true nature was a mystery. Over the years, multiple efforts to disguise the surface had resulted in drastic measures being required. They had to know what they were truly looking at.

They decided after about four hours work, that they had done enough. They had uncovered the centre of the object with amazing ease, although this had set them wondering about the deeper mysteries that lay in the dark tunnel above them, linking the object to the top of the structure in which it was housed. Cursory examination with a torch had reavealed little. The surface of the object itself had been partially revealed.

They began to clean down the dust caused by grinding carefully at it's multi-layered surface. The dust was milimetres thick, showing all the hard work that they had done. Sweat poured from their bodies, causing the dust in the air to stick to their skin. When they ground their teeth together, they could feel the powder coating them. They were both short of breath. The shorter of the two quietly pondered on the possible after effects of this dust on his lungs and eyes.

The plastic sheeting covering the expensive electrical equipment was eventually removed. Several screens on desks showed layers of the dust. They growled about having to clean every object individually, and set to with wet rags.

The nature of the object was becoming clear after hours of working. Dark grey slate gleamed in the evening late. The cleaning finally finished, and the dust finally showered off them, they looked at the fruits of their labour.

"The fireplace is going to look stunning when we've finished sanding it down to the slate"

  • Friday Five...

    1. What is the earliest memory you have of your father?
Alarmingly, I'm sat here scratching my head and I can't remember...

    2. Did your dad spoil you rotten when you were younger?
Depends on your point of view. Myke says yes, but I think he simply gave us everything he could provide.

    3. What is dads favourite car?
His work van... Like father like son...

    4. Have you got a nice treat lined up for dad on Sunday?
Nope, he doesn't care for fathers day. Money in card for his football season ticket

    5. If given a choice, what sport would dad chose to go and watch??
Man city at home or fishing.

  • High A? Can you do a B flat? Cause I've done the High B!!!!!

I was having a sing in the van one day last Sunday, and I was messing around croaking out the high notes on certain Queen songs. At one point, I went to croak out a high B, the note I've been aspiring to reach. And inadvertantly got it.

I discovered something called mixed voice, which allows you to combine elements of your falsetto (Squeaky voice) with elements of your chest voice (natural deep speaking voice).

I then proceeded to have go after go, until I managed to figure out how to do it again.

So I recorded my favourite ever Queen Song, Hammer to fall. I've played all the instruments one by one, and done all the vocals. I know some of the backing is a bit dogdy in the centre - but I was recording the whole thing from memory as I can't find the music!

    Anyway, here it is...

  • Just call me legal wizzkid....

I seem to be getting good at escaping from contracts early without penalty... I've just managed it again with 3 mobile... Am now sat blogging on my new iPhone...

  • That A is as high as I'm ever going to get...

NOT! I've just done a very passable version of We are the Champions, in the original key, which means I needed to sing a B flat above the A, which is my previous record high note. And I fucking well hit it, not just once, but 6 times!!!!!!!

That means I'm half a semitone below the B that I've been aspiring to... Maybe another year or so... :))

  • I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it...

I don't know why, but I just feel like smiling at the moment. For the first time in three years it feels like things are on the up. I'm feeling more confident in my singing (Cover versions of A Kind Of Magic, Can't Get Enough of Your Love, and Alright Now completed in four days. And yes, I hit the high notes!)

I think I'm going to have a wee drinky to celebrate my good mood!

  • Friday Five

Are you always late for things??
Me? Never. Me and Myke? Always. Myke? Always. Notice the pattern?

Do you set your watch/clock to be a teeny bit fast so that you are never late?
No, I spend all my time resetting the clocks back to GMT, as a party trick of Mykes is to have all the clocks to different times. Which explains the above...

Can you ever get the dinner on the table at the time you told everyone it would be ready??
Can I ever get dinner on the table in the first place? No, I'm bollocks at cooking!!!

If you were the White rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, would you wear that silly waistcoat?? If not, what would you wear??
    Leather... lots of leather.

If you were Alice would you be so stupid to drink or eat any of that stuff she found??
No, but I'd be sorely tempted by the fit bloke with "blow me" on his chest!

  • A man in demand

    Hi all,

Sorry I've not been around much at all of late. Things have been a bit mad at our house (now christened as Campomo).

My new band is cooking on very hot gas, two practices in and we have half a set already, two gigs booked, 4th July and 1st August. The guys are clammering for me to start singing, as they want to do rocky stuff a'la Paul Rodgers (Who I sing kinda like!).

The cat has had his first round of vaccinations and a chip in his scruff. One more set of vaccs and a couple of weeks and he'll be allowed out!

Work has been bloody insane - we've actually got our first full day off since my birthday! This sunday is therefore guaranteed to rain!

In other words, sorry I've not been around, it's just been a bit mad!
