Hammer to Fall...

As a band we're toying with a cover of this song. The problem is the vocals on the middle section - they're just too damn high! I've been trying tonight, and I think I may have ruptured something trying to reach it!
I may have to come up with something else for this section - or let someone else make an arse of themselves with it!!!!

Freddie makes it sound so easy, but I dare any of you to try it and see just how high you can go!!!!
(To give you a clue, I can get to "Rich or poor or famous, for your-" Then it goes to a high B, and I just croak it out!)

We bought "Lips" for the Xbox last week, it's basically karaoke. One of the tracks is "Take On Me". I have to drop an octave for the chorus...

It still registers that I'm hitting the notes though!

  I can hit that last note, but it's a nad squeezer to get it... I can hit the Queen ones Falsetto, but it doesn't sound right that way, and I just can't get up there without the falsetto!

    I always do the high note in the shower, but I don't think it'd get any points if I did it in Lips!
    
    If you can't get it, you should just make it your own. Change it to suit yourself. Just because you're covering something doesn't mean you have to copy it. You're not a tribute band! (Are you?)

      Nope not a tribute band, I wouldn't even try that!!! Not vocally anyway...
      
      As for changing it, I've not managed to come up with anything that sounds right yet. It's a bloody odd sequence!
      
      As for the high notes in lips, just blast it out - it'll tell you if you get it. You may just suprise yourself!!

        Keep at it, you'll find something that works.
        
        And I tried just going for it on Lips, and ended up croaking. I get full marks when I drop an octave, so that's what I do.

        Have a few goes at it, higher notes are generally out of reach until you've sang a few songs and warmed up a bit. Start with the easy ones!!!

Find your own comfort zone in the octaves and go for it. Straining is not good for any part of the physiology. Broaden out, exercise breath control, voice projection, all these skills techniques are valuable.

    You don't get to the starts by breaking the cable. Use what you have and manipulate the skills and techniques. The rest will grow, if it is going to, with time and maturity.

Find a comfort zone within the whole song, maybe dropping an octave as Menhir suggested.

  I don't like to be defeated... and I always think that octave dropping is a cop out. I just like to push myself as far as I can (Although I think that I may be at my limit now...)

I hope you find a way around it hun, if not it'll be back to the drawing board and another song - a challenge is one thing, this song is way more than that though! Don't beat yourself up, if you can't find a way find another toon x

  There's always a way round it, but I'm just a glutton for punishment. At one time, I couldn't even get the notes at the start of that section, and now can pitch most of them. I just like to push myself that little bit further!

I once sang along to the backing vocals of the studio version of "Crazy Train" by Ozzy.

They are bloody high - I hit the notes but felt something in my throat go crack!
