Scouring the news websites, I've seen & heard much reference today to Archbishop Williams' reference that parts of Sharia Law is inevitable to become part of British Law.
I have my opinion on this matter - seemingly so does the rest of the Country.
My current quandry is not what to say, but whether I could publish my opinion without fear of being deemed against diversity. So here goes...
In my humble opinion, no religion should not be able to influence the Law Making Process. To do so would automatically destroy the freedom of speech that this country enjoys. Every Religion has what it thinks is best for it's members, which is a wonderful thing. However, Not every religion suits everybody.
Please understand, I have no feelings positive or negative against Islam. I don't know enough about the religion to form any decision. I just don't believe that any belief system should dictate law.
Cheers

As long as you take it as read that basic ideals of 'right and wrong' or whathaveyou come from a secular rather than religion based morality, then everything is as it should be. It's when human rights and other more contentious issues come into play you have yourself a problem, where views are much more personal and so tend to fall into religious categories.
When the laws of the land were laid down, it would have been much simpler. Even if you take times after Protestantism had superseded Catholicism, there's still the basic Christian tenets in place. So to remove the effect of religion on our society I think you'd have to completely rewrite a new, secular one which, in my opinion, might be a little bit scary.
Wow. Sorry. Didn't mean to go on like that xD
